Solutions that save hospitals millions of dollars – and sometimes lives

Why it Matters:

Technology isn’t the answer, it’s the means to one. Adding tech to a hospital challenge might fix one problem but can create others.

Our Expertise:

Effectively integrating new technologies into the hospital environment is as much art as it is science. Connexall has amassed 30+ years of experience balancing specific clinical workflows with existing and new technologies. Much can go wrong, and it has, but at this point we feel like we’ve seen it all.

We are proud that 99% of the tech problems we’ve solved for hospitals stemmed from our partnerships and attentive listening to their needs. It’s how we’ve developed the following solutions:

  • Alarm Fatigue PreventionClinicians at acute care hospitals and health systems face a significant challenge to keep patients safe while managing the volume of patient alarms experienced daily. Alarm fatigue is the cognitive overload care providers experience when they are exposed to too many alarm sounds. It can be far more than just an annoyance, even leading to fatal events.
  • Fall Prevention – Hospitals face significant challenges in preventing patient falls, which are common and costly adverse events, particularly affecting elderly and high-risk patients. While technological solutions like bed alarms and motion sensors offer promise, integrating these tools into daily practices remains complex.
  • Telehub Command CenterTo ensure prompt response to physiological patient monitor alerts, some hospitals now operate centralized telemetry units. Although such units can help alleviate the prevalent problem of caregiver alarm fatigue, sharing this monitoring data with floor nurses often can be a frustrating, time-consuming ordeal for telemetry technicians.

The Bottom Line:

Every hospital in North America struggles with these challenges, costing hundreds of millions annually. Addressing them requires experience and expertise. Our clients agree:

  • Alarm fatigue is the villain of healthcare right now. In fiscal year 2023, our Connexall system took in more than 8.5 million alarms and only sent out about 1.2 million to the nurses. I’m really proud of that.”
  • “We have not had a fall with serious injury since our Connexall implementation.”
  • “The Telehub Command Center makes my work much easier. At another site, I was overwhelmed with 30 patients. Here, I manage 60 patients, no problem. Other sites are phone call, phone call, phone call … it wears you out.”

Reflecting on these successes, and many others, we can confidently state that these solutions are essential, not just optional.
