The OR department of the Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto took a close look at how patients could better flow through the entire perioperative surgical path: from admission, through anesthesia and the OR, then on to recovery and discharge home. Sunnybrook identified bottlenecks and delays for both staff and patients that were becoming too costly to ignore. Their team soon realized that there was no single clinical information system that could provide a “quick fix” to their perioperative workflow challenges.
